The man behind the brilliance "Peter Simon" founded Monsoon in 1973 by selling shaggy woolen coats and hand block printed clothes from Rajasthan. The original focus was always clothes with an ethnic origin from remote places. In May 1973, the first monsoon shop opened in Knightsbridge, London. Monsoon started to sell a small collection of accessories which eventually became so famous that the idea for the innovative new store format Accessorize was born. In 1984, Accessorize came in to existence, the concept evolved as an exciting and a strongly differentiated High Street concept for fashion accessories in an adjacent shop to the Monsoon

The first Accessorize store opened in London's Convent Garden Piazza and then in 1986 came the second shop and many more, in the years ahead, averaging 16 new stores each year.
