In 1910 in the Bronx, Jacob Golomb, the 17 year old son of a tailor was disgruntled with the available swimsuits. A zealous swimmer, the reason for his displeasure was that the suits barely lasted a season. He soon remedied this by making suits that he guaranteed would last a year and in a fit of enthusiasm named it "Everlast". Subsequently, Golomb transformed Everlast into a small retail store that sold a line of sports equipment. In 1917, Golomb was approached by Jack Dempsey who introduced boxing to Everlast. Golomb specially designed training gear for Dempsey, who sought protective headgear that would endure more that 15 rounds of rigorous boxing training. In 1919, Dempsey won the world's heavyweight championship sporting boxing gloves made for him by Golomb; thus Everlast earned its remarkable reputation of providing top-notch boxing equipment.
