The well-known brand Gucci actually started with a small leather goods company and a store in Florence opened by Mr. Guccio Gucci in 1921. Before opening this brand he worked in a hotel at Savoy, where he had learned about the refined aesthetic of the English nobility, and introduced this in the form of created by master craftsmen of Tuscan artisans. The house of Gucci better known as Gucci, is one of the most famous, prestigious and recognizable brands in the world. In 1938 Gucci expanded and a boutique in Rome was opened. The company's most notable products were designed by Guccio .In the 1950s Gucci developed a trade mark; it was a stripped webbing derived from the saddle girth, ant the suede moccasin with a metal bit. Guccio died in 1953 and after that his son Aldo helped lead the company to a position of international prominence. It had its first boutiques in London, Paris and New York. As Gucci expanded overseas, board meetings and other important decisions would just end up with tempers flaring amongst the six brothers in order to take over the business. Gucci remained one of the best brands in the industry until 1970s, when a series of disastrous business decisions and family quarrels brought the company to the verge of bankruptcy.

In 1982 Gucci became a public company and the leadership was passed on to Maurizio who owned 50%of the shares. In the late 80s Investcorp a Bahrain-based company took over Gucci. In 1994 Gucci was re-launched around the globe, while Tom Ford became director and infused the luxury brand with a sense of daring and provocation. Gucci was renamed as "European company of the year 1998" by the European Business Press Federation. In the year 1999 Gucci entered in a strategic with Pinault-Printemps-Redout and transformed itself from a single brand to a multi brand company.
