In 1908, Mo, as Morris Cooper was fondly called by friends, created a company that manufactured work-wear and called it 'M. Cooper Overalls Ltd'. They made clothes for working men. Their bestseller was the 'Bib and Brace overalls'. Seven years later, in 1914, Mo began manufacturing battle fatigues during the World War inspired by Gen. Kitchener's message "Your country needs YOU". (This indicated Cooper Overalls' flexibility to adapt to changing markets and atypical demands.) Jeans were still strictly made for workmen. The company however, became the very first to market 'denims' in the UK. After the war, Mo's son Harold Cooper took over the business and revolutionized it and galvanized denim to become more than just 'work-wear'; he made its ultimate purpose casual wear. Harold rechristened the company to 'Lee Cooper', by adding his wife's family name to it, changing its demure image to a more spirited, fiery one. What began modestly as the staid 'M Cooper Overalls' grew into the gargantuan 'Lee Cooper' with international stores. Not only were they the first to market denim's in the UK, but they pioneered the initiation of denim in Europe!!!
Lee Cooper's personality is that of a street-smart guy/gal who keeps pace with international fashion inclinations. Lee Cooper states that they didn't make their jeans for cowboys and movie stars; they made them for the working man, or anyone who was prepared to roll up their sleeves and step outside to stand by their convictions no matter what. Ditto for women. Pluck and passion are the two attributes that have attached themselves to Lee Cooper's aura.
Always on the forefront of jean fashions, Lee Cooper is a downright trendsetter. Remaining true to their classics, Lee Cooper creates distinct products that exemplify their brand's personality. They work with the world's top designers to give their customers the authenticity they crave interwoven with cutting edge fashion and plenty of comfort. Lee would like to think of their jeans not only as a labour of love but each pair of jeans is their magnum opus. Perfection is what they crave for and perfection is what they achieve.
As clichéd as "trendsetters " sounds, Lee Cooper has been that all their days, with its 'front zip' ladies jeans launched in the 50's, causing public furor, to coloured jeans, the 60s saw Tartan slacks and Bell bottomed hipsters and the 70s introduced checked pants and colourful corduroys. The 80's had skin tight jeans and 'jogging jeans' which even had a drawstring. Jeans were produced with holes in them, in stretch fabric and in acid washes before yielding to introductions of the first slack/jean and ring spun denim of the 90's.
Lee Cooper manufactures clothes for both men and women. Their Spring Summer '07 Collections include Red Diamond (which is totally casual), Authentic (semi-formal clothing) and Beatles (that have 'I love Beatles' liberally written on the T-shirts). They have certain denims washed to add that extra zing. They consist of - Broken resin crinkle, Scraped resin crinkle, Dark garage used, Light garage used, Dry stone used. Other collections in their clothing range are Jeanswear, Active collection, Casual collection and the Ultimate collection.
Lee Cooper adds shoes to the list of products they offer. It spans styles from formal to informal to Sport and Sandals. Since Lee cooper was introduced in the market, it has risen to the top in the casual footwear range.
Lee Cooper is for people who wear their heart on their sleeve and are not afraid to face up to challenges with a fiery spirit and zeal. It doesn't call itself "The Fine English Denim Company" for nothing!
