Emilio Pucci was born in 1914 to one of Florence's oldest noble families. He was well known for his rich colors, flexible fabrics, and striking prints and his couture collection. He opened his first boutique in trendy Capri in 1949. There, he started producing finely drawn, brightly printed scarves and shirts and launched the "capri pants" which are still popular. By 1950 he became a fashion phenomenon. It all started when he created a streamlined ski outfit, photographed for Harper's Bazaar. His classic collection was worn by some of the most celebrated women of the times.
Pucci became recognized for his signature use of bold, brightly colored graphic patterns with a kaleidoscopic, slightly psychedelic feel. Pucci's signature clothes were cutting-edge style throughout the Fifties and early Sixties. In 1954 he created light weight, wrinkle free and supremely comfortable silk-jersey dresses at a time when French couture was highly restricted and structured. From 1965 to 1974 he designed hostess uniforms for Braniff airlines that changed the airline industry and uniform design till date with his innovations like a "bubble helmet". A writer depicts the designer as an innovative and a dynamic force in the fashion world of the fifties and sixties.
Pucci clothes are sold world wide and feature original brightly coloured, often swirly prints or new designs in the designer's original distinct style. Pucci prints appear on clingy and stretchy fabrics and are widely applied in every category like shoes, purses, luggage, billfolds, bathing suits, nightgowns, bras and bikini underpants. Pucci also produced perfumed stationary. Pucci prints have also been featured on the logo of the Apollo 15 space mission and the interior of a Ford Lincoln Continental and history says that Marilyn Monroe was buried wearing Pucci.
The fashion house produces ready to wear clothes and also accessories for women, compared to a small range of men's accessories. Previously the fashion house used to produce a more comprehensive range of men's wear which included men's jacket designed with Pucci printed fabric.
A stunning collection of Pucci was showcased in Milan. A soft, glamorous kind of attitude was created by the designer in his line. The sense of color and feminity was incredible. The name Pucci is akin with color, a wealth of bright colors and prints to boost you out of the blackest of moods. The Pucci print has been around for years and the fashion world is unimaginable without it.
